VILLAGEx

Where Gulf South founders go to get investor-ready

Building great companies requires mentor relationships, investor access, and champions.

VILLAGEx exists to provide this to the next generation of innovative founders. Over a focused four-month period, our cohort works directly with executive-level mentors and investors to build the traction it takes to close that round.

$500M+ raised by our founders · 298 startups accelerated since inception

Applications for the VILLAGEx 2027 cohort close November 6, 2026. Founder profiles are reviewed on a rolling basis — apply early.

The bridge between traction and scale

VILLAGEx isn’t a starting point. It’s where founders with traction get investor-ready.

Why we frame it this way

Why the Gulf South, why now

We frame this cohort the way a16z frames American Dynamism: the industries a country runs on are where the next category-defining companies get built. The Gulf South is an unusually good proving ground.

VILLAGEx looks for founders building at that intersection — real infrastructure, real constraints — and gives them what it takes to scale beyond the region.

  • Energy & industry — ports, refineries, and the supply chains that run through them.
  • Health & critical infrastructure — care delivery and systems built for a region that plans for disruption.
  • Logistics & maritime — one of the busiest port systems in the country, still being modernized.
  • Culture & creative economy — a city that exports culture at a scale few others can match.

Program benefits

Accelerator benefits

Mentorship: EIR
Our EIRs are current and former founders who lead selection, program development, and resourcing. We keep a 4:1 company-to-EIR ratio for real one-on-one time, and they stay engaged through your capital raise.
Mentorship: IIR
IIRs focus on getting companies capital-ready in the back half of the program — deck prep, pitch rehearsal, investor introductions, and training on term sheets, due diligence, and valuations.
Advisory boards
Each founder gets a 4–5 person advisory board with complementary expertise, meeting monthly to track milestones and progress.
Morrow community
VILLAGEx is part of Morrow (formerly GAN) — one of 100+ world-class accelerators across 120+ cities. That membership brings access to $1M+ in perks and services.
Direct resources
Discounted legal services, proforma development, pitch prep, and design support — plus full coworking access at The Shop, where The Idea Village is an anchor tenant.
Peer connections
Founders are grouped with peers at a similar stage, facing similar problems — built for real connection, not just networking.
Village networking
Exclusive events throughout the program — in person and virtual — put founders in front of alumni, board members, investors, and industry leaders.
Fundraising support
Built for companies that have already raised seed capital and are ready to turn that traction into a Series A-level raise. Proven track record from pre-seed through Series A.
Pitch coaching
Professional pitch coaches work with founders to sharpen the story and the delivery — not just the deck.
Deck development
Founders leave with a refined pitch and deck, ready for any investor or customer meeting.
Demo Day
The program culminates in Demo Day — founders present their growth and potential to investors and the local startup community.

“The Idea Village has been extremely valuable to my company. From the staff to the mentor network, the connections I have made have gotten me further in the past four months than I could have imagined. Investing in what comes next

Momentum Fund

In 2023, The Idea Village launched a new affiliated venture capital fund called the “Momentum Fund” to invest in breakout alumni of the flagship VILLAGEx accelerator program.

Private capital is complemented by state investment through Louisiana Economic Development’s SSBCI. The fund is connected to The Idea Village but separately managed and governed, allowing The Idea Village as a 501(c)3 non-profit to support accelerator companies long-term and ultimately participate in their success.

Culmination of the program

Demo Day

As part of the culmination of each VILLAGEx program, founders have the opportunity to showcase their company at Demo Day.

This annual event brings together over 300 people from the regional startup community to witness founders presenting their startups. This celebratory event offers all attendees valuable connections and a sense of community.

Momentum Fund not only helps new startups born out of The Idea Village create momentum for further growth and seeking new capital, but also earmarks profits from the success of these companies towards an endowment for The Idea Village, securing the future of innovation in New Orleans.
