Founded in January 2021 by Sydni Raymond, Bomb Ass Fro is a natural hair care company based in New Orleans, Louisiana. With just one product, Bomb Ass Fro is already on the road to revolutionizing the natural hair care industry, having sold over 15,000 units to date and amassed a massive, loyal social following.

Before starting Bomb Ass Fro, Sydni spent her early career as a successful marketing and communications professional, receiving awards such as the 2019 Rising Professional Ember Award from the Public Relations Association of Louisiana, and the Newcomer of the Year Award from Dillard University's President, as well as being recognized as one of NOLA.com’s 33 Greater New Orleans Business People on the Move.

Sydni decided to pivot her career into the natural hair care and startup world after experiencing firsthand how difficult it can be to figure out which products work best for natural hair, especially for someone who is new to the natural hair community.

“I've had curly hair for over 15 years, and it was a huge learning curve for me. Figuring out what products would work best with my hair texture and which order to put them in was a lot for me. I knew that if it was frustrating for an experienced natural, it was definitely difficult for someone newly natural embarking on this journey,” expressed Sydni.

After doing some research, Sydni found a chemist to help her create an all-in-one hair care product.

“I wanted to make an all-in-one product, so I did a Google search, found a chemist, and invested my savings to launch Bomb Ass Fro.” shared Sydni. 

After multiple product developments, the result is a single product that can be used as a leave-in conditioner, moisturizer, and styler.

Bomb Ass Fro is an exciting new venture that is revolutionizing the natural hair care industry with great customer traction and the attention of locals in the New Orleans startup ecosystem and beyond. This startup was selected from a highly competitive pool of startup applications for the VILLAGEx 2023 cohort to compete on stage for IDEApitch 2023, the largest pitch competition during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week (NOEW) 2023– Bomb Ass Fro was the runner-up.

What's your best piece of startup advice for an entrepreneur in your industry?

“Don't let anyone tell you that this industry is oversaturated. There will always be a bigger competitor. Just make sure you're passionate about whatever you're contributing and do it BIGGER AND BETTER than the rest.”

Why startup in New Orleans?

“New Orleans is my home. I was born and raised here. It's important for me to contribute to this city and make a lasting impact for several reasons. There's a unique opportunity to build a company in NOLA, and there's so much potential to make a lasting impact. There aren't many beauty brands that come out of New Orleans and make it big. I want to be the example.”
