CAPITALx

Prepare your fundraising strategy and pitch to investors.

CAPITALx is a 10-week accelerator program for select high-growth, New Orleans-based founders who are actively seeking funding. The goal is to help participants carefully think through opportunities and prepare for the capital-raising process.
Participation in CAPITALx is by invitation-only. To learn more or request to be considered, email callista@ideavillage.org.

The Details

  • Perks of the Program

Capitalx participants will receive the following based on the needs of each of the companies:

    • Critical Materials: Founders will perfect their pitch, executive summary, and necessary investor decks – then have the opportunity to practice them on actual investors and get feedback.
    • Coaching: Each CAPITALx founder will meet weekly, as needed, with the program's dedicated Entrepreneur(s)-in-Residence (EIR), who will help them hone in on key aspects of their fundraising strategy as well as navigate and prioritize The Idea Village mentor network.
    • Mentorship: Central to the development of companies going through CAPITALx is surrounding them with great mentors. The Idea Village mentor network is made up of a curated group of some of the best local and national business experts committed to helping you accelerator immediate and long-term growth.
    • Pitch Opportunities during NOEW: All CAPITALx participants will have the opportunity to pitch to an audience of local angels and meet with national VCs during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. Three founders will be selected to participate in the Coulter IDEApitch, a showcase of New Orleans' top startups.

  • Eligibility

In order to be eligible for CAPITALx, your business must:

    • Be organized as a for-profit.
    • Be located in the 10-parish Greater New Orleans region (Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. James, St. John the Baptist, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington).
    • Generate less than $1 million in annual revenue
    • Have fewer than 5 full-time employees
    • Have a business model that supports national and global growth with a proven track record.
    • Be actively seeking Angel or VC funding.

  • Selection Criteria

The CAPITALx selection process is meant to assess companies across a wide range of criteria. The goal is to identify founders of integrity and grit, with highly scalable businesses, who are committed to New Orleans and are actively seeking funding. Areas of emphasis include:

    • Past experiences, leadership history, and skills of the management team.
    • The potential business opportunity, including market size, potential to scale globally, barriers to entry, and competition.
    • Existing product-market fit and traction, timeline and hurdles to a market-ready product.
    • Go-to-market strategy.
    • Viability, reality, and defensibility of the Business Model.
    • Dedicated to making New Orleans a better place.

  • Selection Process

While CAPITALx does not have an open application process, The Idea Village invests a significant amount of time in recruiting qualified companies to participate, working closely with local ecosystem partners to identify the best candidates each year. The vetting process includes:

First Round Interview: Select founders will be invited in for an initial interview to discuss their business, background, and goals.

Due Diligence: The Idea Village will do a little digging, following up with the applicant’s references, testing assumptions, etc.

Final Interview: Select candidates will be invited back to interview with a committee who will assess their character, business, and fit for the program.

Selection: Committee chairs will work with The Idea Village team and the dedicated Entrepreneur(s)-in-Residence to select 15-20 founders for CAPITALx.
