CAPITALx

Prepare your fundraising strategy and pitch to investors.

CAPITALx is a 10-week accelerator program for select high-growth, New Orleans-based founders who are actively in the process of growing their business through angel, venture, or debt funding. CAPITALx seeks to help participants understand where their business fits within the spectrum of financing options in order to think through opportunities and be best prepared for success in the capital-raising process.
Participation in CAPITALx is by invitation-only. To learn more or request to be considered, email callista@ideavillage.org.

The Details

  • Perks of the Program

Capitalx participants will receive the following based on the needs of each of the companies:

    • Critical Materials: Founders will perfect their pitch, executive summary, and necessary investor decks – then have the opportunity to practice them on actual investors and get feedback.
    • Coaching: Each CAPITALx founder will meet weekly, as needed, with the program's dedicated Entrepreneur(s)-in-Residence (EIR), who will help them hone in on key aspects of their fundraising strategy as well as navigate and prioritize The Idea Village mentor network.
    • Mentorship: Central to the development of companies going through CAPITALx is surrounding them with great mentors. The Idea Village mentor network is made up of a curated group of some of the best local and national business experts committed to helping you accelerator immediate and long-term growth.
    • Pitch Opportunities during NOEW: All CAPITALx participants will have the opportunity to pitch to an audience of local angels and meet with national VCs during New Orleans Entrepreneur Week. Three founders will be selected to participate in the Coulter IDEApitch, a showcase of New Orleans' top startups.

Areas of emphasis include:

    • A management team that has the relevant skills and experience to allow your business to grow. Additionally, the core leadership should display the appropriate temperament and drive to succeed.

    • A realistic go-to-market strategy.
    • Show a viable and defensible business model.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to building a business at scale and making New Orleans a better place.

  • Selection Process

While CAPITALx does not have an open application process, The Idea Village invests a significant amount of time in recruiting qualified companies to participate, working closely with local ecosystem partners to identify the best candidates each year. The vetting process includes:

First Round Interview: Select founders will be invited in for an initial interview to discuss their business, background, and goals.

Due Diligence: The Idea Village will do a little digging, following up with the applicant’s references, testing assumptions, etc.

Final Interview: Select candidates will be invited back to interview with a committee who will assess their character, business, and fit for the program.

Selection: Committee chairs will work with The Idea Village team and the dedicated Entrepreneur(s)-in-Residence to select 12-20 founders for CAPITALx.
